Rolwaling
region trekking is located in north central Nepal between Langtang
and Everest region. About 20 Km. northeast of the Rolwaling Himal,
It lies Khumbu Himalayan range which houses Mt. Everest, Lotse,
Nuptse, Cho Oyu etc. Mt. Gauri Shankar lies to the same region and
Mt. Melungtse (7181m.) is the highest peak of the range."Rolwaling"
maens simply "the grave" by the indigenous Sherpas on
account of its location - buried down between steep ice-giants.
According to The
Sherpa tradition, this "Tashi Tserringma," is the seat
of the goddess who is the guarantor of a long life. Gaurishankar
is northern peak known as Holy Mountain for the Hindus. The southern
summit, Gauri is a synonym for the feminine manifestation of the
god. From Daldung La you climb down for four or five hours on a really
adventurous path through the dense rain forest to the Rolwaling
River, which you then cross. There you meet up again with the other
path, which certainly also has a beautiful landscape, but doesn't
snake down to Simigaon quite as spectacularly. After about 2 hours
walking time up-river, you reach the Sherpa village of Beding (3693
m) - the only noteworthy settlement in Rolwaling.
An extraordinary
and enjoyable camping- style trekking can be made to the Rolwaling
valley crossing the famous Tashi Lapcha Pass (5800m.). This strenuous
trekking is a rewarding experience in terms of cultural exposure
and awesome Himalayan views. After several days of walking, crossing
the passes and exploring the Tsho Rolpa Lake .
